Mike covered his mouth trying to be
as quiet as possible. He can hear the footsteps walking through his house. He
looked through the cracks of his closed closet door, his stomach tightened in
fear of them finding him. He closed his eyes as he seen the soldier stepping
closer and closer to the closet. He rushed out the closet, grabbed the
solider. Mike swung him on the floor the
gun flew a crossed the room. Mike could hear the other soldiers running down
the stairs. He dived for the gun he turned to the soldier on the floor and let
it off. His body jumped as the sound of gunshots filled the house. He hide
behind the couch, breathing heavily he knew they could hear him. He stood up griping
the gun as tight as he could he started shooting. The soldiers shot back
bullets were flying everywhere. A sharp pain filled mike chest he dropped the
gun but the soldiers kept shooting. Bullets tearing through his flesh blood
splashing as he fell back.
Mike
woke up in tears with sweat rolling down his face. The clock on the wall said
it was a quarter after 3 in the morning. His house was quiet no sign or sound
of soldiers being in there. He turned over and put his head back onto his
pillow. The nightmare he just he playing over and over in his head, his heart
starts racing. Mike jumps out of bed and runs into the bathroom, his stomach
hurting he crouch down by the toilet, he can feel the old rice he ate from
earlier traveling up his throat. Before he knows it he could see a thick white
liquid in the toilet, he flushes it whips his mouth and goes back to bed.
Mike
woke up from the sound outside his bedroom window. He sat up rubbing his face
then headed to the window. He saw what he needed to see and walked away. Today
was the same as any other day; he went to his job work like a slave for little
pay then went home. Working as a miner was the lowest paying job you could get,
this town he called home wasn’t a home at all. The government controlled
everything but the person who controls the government is never spoke of but we
know he exist. Work was long and hard but mike pushed through it every day, he
saw men die on the job from being crushed by boulders. Mike was a strong man;
he played football for his high school a few years back. He wasn’t the sharpest
knife in the draw but he wasn’t the dullest. Mike life revolved around sports
and girls, sports was no longer an option since he got stuck in the town he in
now. Girls? He forgot about them a while ago they no use to him now in this
time. He left work around 8 his normal
time, he gets home around 9. Someone must have been watching him for a while
because on this night his life got changed forever.
Mike
was looking for his keys when he saw a man standing in a suit staring at him.
He turned and looked at him as his heart started racing
“What’s your name kid?” asked the
man
“Kid sure isn’t my name, so if you
going to come at me come correct” replies Mike.
Giggling
as he said “see here Mike” he took of his glasses and stuck them in his pocket.
“How do you know my name?”
“Does this really matter, the
question is do you want to do this the easy way or the hard way?”
Mike
stared at him for a moment; the tense in the air was thick. Mike voice cracked
as he tried to speak. The man shook his head and laughed. Mike clinched his fist as he yelled “What do
you want?” The man took a few steps forward as he looked Mike dead in his eyes.
Mike grabbed his keys out of his pocket and turned to the door. He could see
the man speeding up as he put the key into the door. The door opened in the
nick of time and mike slammed the door and locked it. He couldn’t put
everything together he never had time to. A loud bang felt the air as Mike
turned around he saw a fist coming towards his face. He stumbled back against
the wall. It was the same man from the hallway he had broken down the door just
to get Mike. Mike charged gathered himself and charged at the man. The man knee
came up at a rapid pace hitting Mike in his stomach a few times before throwing
him on the floor. Mike landed face first, sliding a little before coming to a
complete stop.
“Who are you and what do you want?”
asked mike
“What I want for you to just agree
and pick the easy way and my name is Cody” said the man.
“Well Cody I pick the easy way”
Cody
stopped in his tracked and said “good follow me now”. He turned and headed back
towards the hallway. Mike got up slowly holding his stomach and followed him.
Outside the wind was cool; a black car was parked across the street. Mike seen
that car around before but never paid it any attention. They got into the car
and drove off.
